London: London Magazine, 1740. First edition. First issued in 1740, this is from the London Magazine, with "A Table Comparing this Chart with Mr. Popples great Map of the British Empire in America". Later, simpathetic, hand color, with compass rose and rhumb lines. With transatlantic routes from England and Spain indicated, such as "Upper course to Carolina & Virginia" and "Course of the galeons and flota". Extensive notes below the title cartouche concerning improvements to "the part relating to the British Dominions in America". Also a section of text at the top pertaining to trade winds, with an explanation of why the course to Virginia lies far to the south. "Publish'd according to Act of Parliament" printed below the image. Image size: 17 x 12 1/4". With faint fold lines, and offsetting from opposite page of magazine on verso only, very good condition.
