View of Cruger's Island, from near Hog's Back Buoy.
Washington DC: 1868. A sweeping view of the island, with a charming home ("Cruger's House") at the center of the image, and a gazebo at the extreme right side of the island. The island is located approximately one and a half miles below the village of Tivoli, in Red Hook Township, Dutchess County. The town was apparently named by Dutch navigators, who saw Cruger's Island (which is a peninsula) with all its sumac turning red in the fall, and named the place Red Hoek. Steel engraving. Three original vertical folds, very good. Image size: 18 1/2 (w) x 2". Paper size: 24 x 11 1/2" Item #16359
