Advertising trade card, iron clipper 'Cimba', London to Sydney.
London: 1904. A color advertising trade card for the "Splendid Iron Clipper, Cimba", with text and the ship's flag printed in red and dark blue, and displaying five different type fonts. The Cimba was built in 1878 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Cimba sailed for 20 years between Sydney and London carrying wool, and also to Port Jackson. She was an impressive heavily rigged ship, 223 feet long, with green hull with gold scrolls, white bulwarks and yellow stripe, with lion figurehead. Her first captain, J. Fimster, served until 1895; he was succeeded by Captain J. W. Holmes who served until 1906, when the ship was sold to a Norwegian outfit.
The card is dated 1904 and lists her berth at South West India Dock; the managers listed are Wincott, Cooper & Co. Very mild foxing at lower right edge. Printed in 2 colors, one side only. 4 3/4 x 3 1/2". Not found on Trove. Very good overall. Item #16591
