This is an extract of Les Suites à Buffon, shortened from Sequels to Buffon Constituting a Complete Course of Natural History Encompassing the Three Reigns of Nature, Entrusted to the Most Famous Naturalists and to Skilful Writers. The kingdoms are botany, zoology and geology. Edited by Nicolas Roret and published between 1834 and 1890, the work included 89 volumes and was often extracted asd Suites à Buffon, as here with Planches Zoologie Generale. This imprint contains eight well-preserved color plates, including a horse, six line drawings of bird wings and five colorful pheasants. It is stamped on the cover and first interior (text) page with Biblioteque Maurice Hofer, likely the entomologist Maurice Hofer of 19 rue Monge, Paris identified in the December 1, 1872 issue of Feuille des Jeunes Naturalistes. 6 1/2 by 10. Some soiling to edges but colors on engravings are all bright. Plates detached. Item #16834
