New York: Harper's Weekly, 1873. Scarce post Civil War map of New York City printed in a supplement to Harper's Weekly. With a subtitle: Map of the Metropolis from the Battery to One Hundred and Eighth Street, and Parts of Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Jersey City, and Hoboken". A list at the bottom of the map lists, amazingly, 291 churches in New York (Manhattan); 154 "public buildings, newspaper offices, hotels, etc."; as well as churches for Brooklyn, Williamsburg, Long Island City, Greenpoint, Jersey City and Hoboken. All the ferries are indicated along the shore.

With a detailed map of Central Park showing "Play Ground", "The Green", "The Mall", and the Croton Reservoir. Grand Central Depot shows the Harlem RR, NY Central and Hudson River RR, and the NY & NHRR railroad lines. On the west side along the river is also the Hudson River RR seemingly beginning on 34th Street and going north on 11th Avenue, before turning to the river edge.

Cracks at original folds restored from the back. 32 x 22 1/4" Very good condition. Item #17359
