London: David Bogue, 1851. First edition. Print. A proof plate on india paper. "Going in" shows the crush of the lower class, rushing the gates to enter the exhibition, leaving behind boots, hats, umbrellas, coats and such, all lost in the melee. "Coming out" shows the crowds smiling and satisfied at their great adventure, re-finding their lost clothing. The backing paper is a little foxed, with a watermark on the lower outer margin, and with a couple of closed tears in the margins. mostly on the verso, and there is a small marginal crescent shaped mark on the right edge, just touching the india paper. India paper 21.5 x 28.5 on paper with a slightly larger platemark, and paper 44 x 59 cm. Douglas 254.
