New York: Leavitt & Allen, c1860. Hardcover. An album inscribed on first inside page, "Presented to Frances Brooks by her cousins H. & L. Brooks, October 1st, 1861." ...about time in California and Colorado looking for gold. (No publication date is given on title page.) With illustrations under tissue of various feminine studies throughout, such as Mariana, Katarina, the Duke's Daughter, etc. Most of the green or pink pages are blank, but inscriptions include "Your affectionate cousin, W.B. Brooks, Monroe, N.Y., June 10th, 1863," a poem written for Frances in 1866 by Hattie S. Brooks, a poem by her Uncle John, then age 79 and a two-page note from her aunt Sarah Brooks, responding in 1864 to Frances' request that she write in her album. Approx. 7 by 8.5 inches. Pressed red leather cover with gold imprint. Worn at corners. Age spots on title page. Some pages detached. Item #17817
