Very rare map that appeared only in the late Blaeu atlas, of eastern Canada (Nova Francia), showing the southern tip of Greenland, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Davis and Hudson Straits, and Labrador. Based on Samuel de Champlain's map of 1632. This from the first Latin edition of Blaeu's atlas of America. Hand colored, with Latin text on verso. With title cartouche decorated with elements pertaining to fishing, highlighting the importance of the Grand Banks fisheries to Europe. Image size: 22 3/4 x 17 3/4". Paper size: 25 1/2 x 22".
