Signed photographic portrait of John Burroughs. John Burroughs, Harris, Ewing.

Signed photographic portrait of John Burroughs.

Washington DC: Harris & Ewing, Ca. 1905. John Burroughs, the American poet, essayist & naturalist (1837 - 1921)), friend of Walt Whitman and Henry David Thoreau, seated at a table with open book, gazing off to the right, with his trademark full snowy beard. Photograph taken by the Washington photography studio Harris & Ewing, with embossed blind stamp below the image. Signed just below the border, at the lower right. Burrough's pose in the photograph closely resembles a glass negative held by the Library of Congress (item/hec2009004383/), part of the Harris & Ewing Collection in the Prints and Photographs Division. Image size 6 x 9", on 9 3/4 x 13 3/4" stock. Slight creasing in lower right corner, well outside the signature & photograph. Very good overall. Item #19537
