The story of the 'Mutiny of the Bounty', written for older children: "When they had succeeded in getting rid of such of the crew as they disliked, the mutineers forced the captain over the ship's side into the boat, and after subjecting their victims to much ridicule, and making sport of their situation, they at length cast them adrift on the open sea! As the vessel sailed away, they could hear the mutineers shouting "Huzza for Otaheite!" (p82).

Contents include Captain Falconer's Adventures; Wreck of the Vryheid; Mutiny of the Bounty; Loss of the Kent, East Indiaman; Wreck of the Medusa; Loss of the Winterton, East Indiaman; Loss of the Royal George; Wreck of the Steamers Killarney and Forfarshire (which includes the account of Grace Darling's heroic rescue attempts); Wreck of the Albion, New York packet; and Loss of the Doddington.

12mo, 224pp, ads 4pp. Frontispiece wood block illustration & 3 illustrations. The advertisements in rear indicate this was published ca. 1843 because there is an ad for the 2nd edition of Hawthorne's 'Grandfather's Chair'. Orig. dark brown blind and gilt stamped cloth with elaborate gilt decorations at spine. Spine ends a bit rubbed, gilt a bit faded. Internally, a bright clean copy with some light general foxing.
