Cipriani depicting the marriage of Cupid and Psyche, showing the cherubic young couple hidden under a veil (Cupid holding a dove) and being lead by a group of cupids. Giovanni Battista Cipriani (1727 - 1785) arrived in England in 1755; he collaborated on many works with Francesco Bartolozzi. Cipriani also became adept at restoring artworks, including those of Rubens and Varrio; he was later a founding member of the Royal Academy.
Royal 8vo, engraved frontispiece, 59pp, all edges gilt. Gilt stamped dark blue morocco, gilt title at spine. Boards with gilt stamped rules and elaborate gilt floral decorations at corners. Corners rubbed, boards a little marked; internally, light scattered foxing. Very good overall. Item #20501
