'The river and harbor act of June 14, 1880 appropriates $25,000 for improving Stonington Harbor, Connecticut.' printed by the Office of the Chief of Engineers, United States Army, Washington DC, October 13, 1880. This advertisement requests bidders by November 10, 1880, for the delivery of granite for the Stonington Harbor breakwater. Stonington was originally Pequot land when a trading house was established in 1649. The town prospered in the 1790s as a sealing port and was incorporated in 1807. Printed on beige paper, 8 1/2 x 14", front describes specifications of the breakwater and expectations for potential bidders, verso describes 'General Information for Bidders'. Vertical and horizontal folds. Some uneven toning at vertical fold though still legible. Chipping at right edge, dusty. Good + overall. Item #21258
