Melbourne: Stuart, Couche & Co., 1875-1876. Ephemera. Eight manuscript letters, five printed Timber and Building Material Reports and envelopes from an agent in Melbourne, Australia to Edward Plummer in Lisbon Falls, Maine. Plummer (1830-1900) was a prominent businessman. He helped to build Rumford Falls Railroad, a pulp mill of Lisbon Falls Fiber Co. and was a Representative to the Legislature in 1870; he promoted and directed Androscoggin RR built in 1861, organized Androscoggin Water Power Co. and its lumbering functions as of 1875.

Five letters written on company letterhead (17 x 11" folded); three letter on onionskin; five "Timber and Building Materials" circular sent on a specific ship and dated. The letters report primarily on conditions in the local lumber market, the impact of the weather on the condition of "the upcountry roads" and the pricing of various woods, from Baltic spruce, spruce deals and white pine. All letters with original folds, the blue envelopes 5 1/2 x 3" postmarked Melbourne, London, Brindisi, California, none with stamps. The Timber circulars via Brindisi. All clean, legible. Fine.
