Manuscript document recording taxes paid 1816 - 1825 in British currency, for land in Ohio.

1825. Manuscript record of taxes paid by Jesse Hedges on behalf of David Hedges (Long Island) to S. Hunting (Huntting?), for land owned in Ohio. The statement records 11 payments made, the first June 28, 1816 and continuing through 1825. There are 2 additional notes below the list of payments; the first "The above statement I believe correct" and signed "S. Hunting" (or Huntting). The second note states, "The above taxes are generally paid in Oct. of each year". There is an estimate of the tax due for 1826, "probably 3 - 4 - 1".

Interestingly, the payments are recorded in British currency: pounds, shilling, pence. Stamp at verso indicating document likely folded into a letter. Closed tear lower right corner, no loss of text. 7 3/4 x 11 1/ 2" Very good condition. Item #22049
