London: c. 1870. A bank note engraved pair of share certificates for this early electric company registered in London at 4 Copthall Buildings, E.C. London, with a tangential relationship to Australian illustrator Ellis Rowan.
The shares were assigned to Charles H. Roessler, dated 17th Feb 1887, signed by J. J. Cater (listed as a director of the Agency of the Bank of British North America in San Francisco in 1894 & 1896); B. H. Van Troup, a London solicitor and J. H. Duncan, Secretary.)
There is a tangential relationship between the Australasian Electric LPS Company and famed Australian illustrator Ellis Rowan. Her husband was Frederick Charles Rowan, (1844-1892), a British army officer who had fought in the Taranaki wars in New Zealand. In 1882, Frederic Rowan became Australasian general manager of the Australasian Electric Light Power and Storage Co. Ltd of London, and also, later, managing director of the Australian Electric Co. of Victoria. In 1886 he was appointed consul-general for Denmark.
