Springfield, Mass. Milton Bradley Co., 1917. Paperback. Unusual set of three puzzles depicting American World War I war ships based on photographs by E. Muller Jr. The puzzles depict the U.S.S K-1 Submarine, the U.S.S New York and the U.S.S Texas. The cover of the box illustrates the U.S.S. Louisiana. Robert E. Muller, whose byline was "E. Muller Jr.", was one of the most prominent US naval photographers at the turn of the 20th century. The puzzles measure 18 x 12 3/4", each made up of 30 large wooden pieces. This is No. 4046 of Milton Bradley's toy line. The puzzles are complete, with some slight marking. Only the box cover survives. A set that is unusual in the trade, projecting the power of Teddy Roosevelt's Great White Fleet forward to the First World War. Good + overall. Item #22579
