Massachusetts trading firm in Qing dynasty China, whose imports and exports included tea & opium. Presented to Dana, American lawyer & author of "Two Years Before the Mast", the classic American memoir. the author was the Late Governor of Hong Kong, Plenipotentiary in China and negotiated a treaty with King Mongkut of Siam. Bowring reports extensively on commerce and finance in the Philippines. It was later given to "Sherwood Pickering from Rosamond Dana Wild, Sept 8- 1938." 8vo, viii, 434, [6 incl. 4 of music] pp, 8 tinted lithograph plates, several other woodcut illustrations, maps, and plans.
