"Te Puni". Lithograph portrait of Maori chief.

London: S. Low, Marston, Searle and Rivington, 1877. A striking full length portrait of Honiana Te Puni (unknown - 1870), a Te Ati Awa chief of high lineage who was descended from Takarangi and Rau-Mahora. The portrait is full length, with the chief depicted wearing a dark feather cloak, with a longer garment beneath with a decorative geometric border. Te Puni has a white beard and white hair and carries a mere in his right hand.

The portrait is from Barraud's 'New Zealand Graphic and Descriptive'. 8 3/4 x 14", matted. OCLC: 1008489716 cites one copy of the book, at the Victoria and Albert. Very good condition. Item #23383
