London: Vanity Fair, 1897. Spy cartoon for "Vanity Fair" magazine supplement, a proof. Ranjitsinhji (1872 - 1933), often known as Ranji, was one of the finest batsmen of all time, and the first Indian cricketer to have played for England and Sussex.

Ranji played first class cricket for Cambridge University, and county cricket for Sussex. Ranji was ruler of the Indian princely state of Nawanagar from 1907 to 1933, as Maharaja Jam Saheb.
