Fine uncut and unopened copy of a text on geology by a professor of science and engineering at Columbia who made additions and notes to an early treatise on steam engines as well as writing early textbooks on philosophy, mechanics and chemistry. James Renwick (1790–1863) also authored biographies of Robert Fulton, David Rittenhouse and DeWitt Clinton.

Renwick's textbooks on philosophy, mechanics (1832), and chemistry (1840) were among the first of their kind published in the US.
