Women Expecting Death from the Hands of Dutch Sailors who had Murdered their Husbands.

London: 1768. An image of terror - naked women and children being attacked by Dutch sailors, their menfolk dead on the ground. The British author implies that the Dutch were known for barbarity to native peoples. The scene portrayed is reminiscent of the disaster of the wreck of the Batavia off the coast of Western Australia in 1629. When the Captain Pelsaert left to get help in Batavia for his wrecked ships, his Dutch officers ran amok and killed their companions, confiscating their wives, etc. In this scene, it is the native peoples who are victimized, although their features are europeanized.
