White Star Line. Australian Emigrant Service. Passenger List.

Liverpool: 1914. Wraps. Passenger lists for the voyage from Liverpool to Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney on the steamer "Irishman", sailing on March 21, 1914. Six pages of passengers to Adelaide; seven pages to Melbourne; six pages to Sydney. A few marginal notes by a young emigrant highlight the names of "mates" in the passenger lists (some of whom apparently appeared in photographs in the Sydney Mail, according to the note maker). The fellow has highlighted the Richard and Ada Wilson family, perhaps because they had three daughters, Misses Alma, Frances and Ada as well as Master George and Eric.

The SS Irishman was a steel twin screw steamer built in Belfast in 1899 by Harland and Wolff Ltd and owned by the British and North Atlantic Steam Navigation Company. The Commander of the ship is T. Howell, and the Surgeon H. F. Holmden; agents in Australian ports are Dalgety & Co.

A special note indicates that "the Australian passenger steamers are fitted with the Marconi System of Wireless Telegraphy and also with Submarine Signalling Apparatus". One supposes this would become very much more important in six months when W.W.I. broke out in Europe.

16mo, not paginated, [19] pp. Printed stiff paper wrappers, with title printed in blue at front wrapper. Wrappers faintly creased, otherwise very good condition. Not found in Trove. Very good condition. Item #24347
