Edwards Pierrepont, $500 bond certificate in the Bradford Coal and Iron Company.
New York: 1856. Bond certificate made out to E. Pierepont (sic) dated March 22, 1856, in the amount of $500, in a coal and iron company, to be paid within 30 days, and at annual rate of 7%. This certificate was issued just before Pierrepont, an important New York politician, was elected Superior Court Judge on the New York Supreme Court.
Edwards Pierrepont (1817 - 1892) was a prominent New York jurist, politician and supporter of Ulysses S. Grant for President in 1868 and 1872. He served as the New York U.S. Attorney (Southern District of New York, 1869), U.S. Attorney General (1875 - 1876), and U.S. Minister to England. We locate a record of a Bradford, (Manchester) England colliery active in this time period.
