Assorted W.W.II ephemera from Capt. Max Link Sr. military experiences.
Link was born in 1903 in Germany. After the family emigrated, he enlisted in the US Army at 18 1/2 y.o. (farmer) and retired in 1952 with 30 + years service. He spent time in Italy, Korea, Philippines (Manila), Japan (Okinawa).
Collection contains multiples of his honorable discharge and reenlistment papers, a photo of Max in 1944 in honor of his 41st birthday; a handwritten letter to Max Jr. dated 1944 from Italy "in the Spaghetti Boot." 4pp letter 5 1/4 x 6 3/4" with envelope; vaccination record; 10 (8 3/4 x 7 1/2") b&w photos of the Mt. Vesuvius eruption that took place March 17-23, 1944, and 4 b&w photos of Naples castle and shrine; 12pp typed diary in 2 sections, the first describing 'leaving for WAR' on Aug. 9 1943 landing in Oran, then on to Italy. The second section entitled 'Soldier's travel's' gives the same story with his personal impressions. Very good condition. Item #28375
