[New York]: 1853. Ephemera. "This certifies that Edward Wells is entitled to five Shares ... if stock in the Peekskill Academy, the said shares being of the par value of Five Dollars each, and being issued for subscription for increase of the Library and Apparatus."
Signed by the President James Brown and Secretary James Brewer on 30th day of December A.D. 1853. James Brown may be the namesake for Brown Street in the town of Peekskill. With an attractive woodcut of the school building at the head, printed in blue ink. The Peekskill Academy, later the Peekskill Military Academy for boys was founded in 1833 in Peekskill, NY and closed in 1968. Notable alumni include the children's writer L. Frank Baum. Very good, blind stamp seal, letter folds, two holes from binder in right margin. Item #28382
