Signed by the President James Brown and Secretary James Brewer on 30th day of December A.D. 1853. James Brown may be the namesake for Brown Street in the town of Peekskill. With an attractive woodcut of the school building at the head, printed in blue ink. The Peekskill Academy, later the Peekskill Military Academy for boys was founded in 1833 in Peekskill, NY and closed in 1968. Notable alumni include the children's writer L. Frank Baum.
