West Point Foundry receipt to Sterling Iron and Railway Co.
New York: West Point Foundry, 19 October 1868. A receipt on West Point letterhead paper signed by S. Rumpf of the Foundry to A.W. Humphrey, Treasurer of the Sterling Railway Co. acknowledging receipt of a draft for $100, with Sterling stamp.
The Sterling Iron and Railway Company was situated in Ramapo (Rockland County), New York, and operated under various names from 1736 until 1923. The West Point Foundry was an American iron working and machine shop located in Cold Spring, New York. It's manufacture of Parrott Guns was instrumental in helping the North during the Civil War. It operated from 1818 to about 1911.
7 5/8 x 9 7/8", blue lined letterhead, original folds, manuscript, round stamp mark by Sterling on 20 October 1868, 4 binder holes at left. Very good condition. Item #28395
