Calling card of F.P. Avery, and a printed test "Time by Equal Altitudes of Sun's Limb" with Avery's manuscript answers, dated March 21st 1877.

Frank P. Avery served in Dakota in 1887 and won the shooting competition as a 1st lieutenant. "Twenty years in the Infantry, all on the western frontier; retired although on the fringes of military service; recalled to staff duty in Washington during World War I." (Cullum
