West Point hop invitation and test from F.P. Avery, USMA Class of 1878.
New: Tiffany & Co., 1877-1878. Illustrated hop invitation, calling card and printed test w manuscript results by West Point cadet F. P. Avery. The hop invitation shows an eagle and cadet holding a large flowing sheet with text and a list of graduates, and an image of West Point with sail boats in foreground. Calling card of F.P. Avery, and a printed test "Time by Equal Altitudes of Sun's Limb" with Avery's manuscript answers, dated March 21st 1877.
Frank P. Avery served in Dakota in 1887 and won the shooting competition as a 1st lieutenant. "Twenty years in the Infantry, all on the western frontier; retired although on the fringes of military service; recalled to staff duty in Washington during World War I." (Cullum
