Glasgow Scotland: St Andrew's Ambulance Association, c.1897. Ephemera. Large triangular and rare linen bandage illustrating its uses for emergency medicine. St. Andrews Ambulance Association was the first ambulance service in Scotland. The 34 images printed on the linen are based on illustrations from Dr. George Beaston's Ambulance Hand-book, published in 1891. Emergency uses such as stretchers, tourniquets, splints, slings and head bandages are illustrated and numbered 1-50. The complete title at the bottom edge of the bandage is "Society for Instruction "in First Aid to the Injured". Bandage for First Aid in Accident. This item sold at a NY auction in 1997 for over $500. Triangular linen 24 3/4 x 52", selvage on one side and unbound on the other two edges. The letters "NIVISON" written in ink on the lower left corner. In very good condition. Very good condition. Item #28494
