ALS letter from Civil War Turner's Lane Hospital, considered the first US neurological research center.
Philadelphia: June 23rd, 1864. Letters. Turner's Lane Hospital was founded in 1863 and is considered the first US neurological research center. George Baxter of Battery G, 1st NY Artillery writes to Capt. Ames that he has 'been droped (sic) from the Rolls + reported a Deserter or something of that character the tenth of October 1863 + consequently can get no pay. You will oblige me much by correcting the mistake or whatever it may be...' He asks for a certificate to be sent to 'Lieut. Davis at this Turners Lane Hospital.' One might wonder if Mr. Baxter was being treated at the hospital. Small note on the back page "Answered July 4th 1864".
