Captain Weary at the North Pole.

Dallas, TX: Titche Goettinger Co., 1914. Paperback book. A children's story of Captain Weary discovering the North Pole with the help of Eskimos, a polar bear, walrus, a man named Dr. Snook, and ultimately gaining fame and a visit from Santa Claus. Interestingly the first page shows a derogatory image of Weary walking off of a plane holding a chain that links the Eskimos' together by the neck. Gum drops are the inspiration for the Eskimo's and polar bear's participation.

With an advertisement for Titche Goettinger Co. in Dallas on back cover. Titche-Goettinger was a major department store in Dallas starting in 1902. Why department stores participated in this kind of advertising is puzzling.

Oblong 8vo, thick paper covers, title in black and red on front with color ills, 6 leaves, color illustrations throughout, staplebound, split at spine bottom. Overall very good condition. Item #29074
