Annual Emigration of Birds. (Social Ornithology).
1845. From George Cruikshank's Table-Book, the caricaturist and satirist makes commentary about travel between England and France with the emigrants flying like birds, wealthy ones with ornate hats and bold body positions, while poor ones have ordinary caps and struggle to fly. An 1823 Cruikshank caricature (BMuseum number 1978,U.279) uses the same location to illustrate the fleeing from the French Revolution.
6 1/8 x 9 1/4", printed in sepia, closed tear at left margin repaired with acid free tape, some marks in margins. Overall very good condition. Item #29087
