C. 1881. The SS Servia (aka RMS Servia) was the first of Cunard's new breed of ocean liners and was launched in March of 1881. She was the third largest ship in the world at 515 feet long and 52.1 feet wide. With her design and construction, Servia had many features that placed her on the Admiralty's reserve list of armed auxiliary cruisers, however, she was the first liner specializing in passenger transportation. She was the first major ocean liner to made of steel, have electric lighting and luxury passenger accommodation.
