"At a dinner of the Omay Khayyam Club in London (8 December 1897), Colonel John Hay who had been introduced by Mr. Henry Norman as "soldier, diplomatist, scholar, poet and Omarian" delivered the following address, pronounced by all who heard it 'a masterpiece of literary oratory.'
