This is also the battleground where T.E. Lawrence's Arab campaign was played out.
"This book is not always recognized as containing Lawrence's work, as the pieces are unsigned. The two pieces in question appear to have been extracted from official reports. These, along with the reports in the Arab Bulletin and in The Times, are his first published accounts of the Arab campaign." With a wonderful, undated inscription giving the provenance from two soldiers who were active in the field, one Australian the other British. The inscription reads:
"G.H. Baker (Late A.S.C., M.T. attached 39 & 60 O.M.W. (L) E.E.F. to A.J. Healy (Late M.M.G. & R.E. (Australian corps) B.E.F. with the very best wishes and great admiration of a splendid example." An added pencil notation below reads:
Ypres [C….] (unreadable) Nov 19th - Nov. 21st London celebration Nov. 30- 9th counter attack.
