WWII photos in Port Moresby, New Guinea.
1943. A collection of 115 primarily WWII photos, c. 1943, by an unknown photographer, plus a few family shots and later photos.
Most of the photos are in and around Port Moresby, New Guinea with the 101st Anti Aircraft Battalion. Identifiable shots are B24 Bombers Deliverer and Moby Dick, B17s Mission Belle and Yankee Diddl'er, there is a photo of a "scoreboard" 101st Battalion, New Guinea, the scoreboard reads "101st Anti Aircraft vs Japanese Air Force", with tally of confirmed kills. Another snapshot of a sign that reads 'Fort Sweat. 101 Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion, since May 3, 1942, First U.S. Ground Combat Troops in New Guinea." Includes 4 snapshots of Natives, or Army men with Natives.
One man seems present in most of the images as well as the family ones, but no name identifies him.
The only photo with an identifying caption on verso reads, "Staff Sgt. Albert V. Tenney (where Tenney's had their meals maneuvers Oct. 4 Nov. 1941) Chester, S.C."
Many casual snapshots of men, camp life, military views, plus about 15 family photos, one of which was printed at Lane Drug Stores, and a school photo taken by Minor Studio 1949-50 - both entities with presence in Georgia.
115 b&w photos (1 colorized) varying in size the smallest 2 1/8 x 2 5/8", most are 3 x 4", 1 postcard. Very good condition. Item #29331
