Snapshots of a Cook on a US ship 1945 in the Pacific theater.
1941-1950. Approximately 250 images of active service in Japan, the Philippines, New Guinea. Henry Horst was a cook on a destroyer, which accompanied the LST 1024 in the Pacific Theater. He grew up in Brooklyn and had a brother Anthony who fought in the European Theater. Personal shots inscribed on the verso in his hand writing, including a heartbreaking photo of 5 beautiful women in kimonos described on the verso "Jap women who lived on Okinawa. Don't know if they were alive after the Navy shelled and bombed the island". Commercial shots, numbered and stamped on the verso, Leyte Invasion, R R Wayakama, Okinawa, Birthday Party, Building Okinawa, Jap Barber Shop, Liberty Wayakama, Yakanura, Baca Bomb, Jap PT Sallboat (sic) Tokyo (with bombed out streets). Photos of Manila, "pre war" and after, with destruction. Couple of photos with stamp "Stephen Tokash... Hammond, Indiana". He spent Christmas in 1945 at White River Canada.
