The book is divided into two sections: I = 'The History of China from the Earliest Period to the massacre of the Christians at Tien-Tsin. Section I - From the origin of the empire to 1840.'
II = 'The History of China from the Earliest Period to the massacre of the Christians at Tien-Tsin. Section II - From 1840 to the Present Time.' Additional section entitled, 'China Illustrated.' 18pp text (incomplete), plus steel plates.
4to, Sec. I, xl, 106pp, lacking p42-51; Sec. II, xxviii, 18pp text (incomplete); 90 total b&w steel plates, lacking 3 plates. Disbound, brown leather spine present with gilt title, no boards. Sold as a collection of plates with some text pages removed. Lacks tea and Hong Kong content. Some damp around edges of later plates (latter 20%).
