The author's family migrated from England to Adelaide from which William left for the Californian gold fields in 1849. He returned to Australia for the gold rushes there and wrote this volume as a chatty guide book informing potential emigrants as to what to expect socially and price-wise on and off the diggings. This is an entertaining book, very worthwhile in a gold related library.
F15620 states "Racy accounts of NSW, Victoria and South Australia, their productions, industry, agriculture and stock holdings, aborigines etc. The gold discoveries, emigration and colonization are also dealt with."
8vo, xii, 343pp. including 4 page advertisement in the prelude and 14 page appendix. Original blue embossed cloth, gilt title on spine. Signature of the original owner on the front free end paper which looks to be something like "G. Maie May 1856" Overall very good condition. Item #29415
