These prints were drawn by Sydney Parkinson on Captain Cook's first voyage, where the 'Endeavour' expedition astronomers observed the Transit of Venus on June 3rd 1769. Three copper engravings of Yoolee-Etea: An Heiva, or kind of Priest of Yoolee-Etea, and the Neighbouring Islands, Plate XI; A Boat House in which the Natives of Yoolee-Etea and the Neighbouring Islands preserve their Canoes of State from the Weather, Plate XII; A Morai, or Burial Place in the Island of Yoolee- Etea. Plate X.

Copper engravings measuring 71/2 x 11" on 9 x 11 1/2" sheet; 8 3/4 x 10 5/8 on sheet 11 1/4 x 13 3/4" & 8 x 9 3/4" on sheet 10 x 12 1/4" respectively.

Raiatea, is the second largest in the French Polynesian islands after Tahiti. Very good overall. Item #29441
