Bronze Medal depicting Gutenberg, the Inventor of the Printing Press.
Paris: c. 1900. French bronze medal of Johannes Gutenberg & his printing press illustrated on the verso. The artist is Leon Deschamps. The medal depicts the bust of Gutenberg facing left, on the obverse, within a circle with the legend "JEAN GUTENBERG INVENTEUR DE L'IMPRIMERIE NE EN 1400 MORT EN 1468" along the edge surrounding the bust. The verso depicts a printing press with the words "LA LUMIERE FUT". The edge of the medal has the word Bronze with a cornucopia (Paris Mint mark). The medal is just under 3" in diameter and weighs 7 oz. with a lovely patina.
