Manners and Customs of Various Nations; or Sketches of Primitive Races in the Lands Beyond the Seas. Complete, Parts I & II bound in one volume.

London: Chapman & Hall, 1860. Hardcover. An up-market production of a "peoples of the world" book for children, which includes an illustration of a kangaroo hunt. Two parts bound in one volume; includes the scarce Part 2, Herdsmen and Tillers of the Soil.

The illustrations in Part 1 are very unusual - while they are woodblocks, there is contemporary block color & hand color. They have differently designed borders, and are utterly charming.

In part 2, they are simpler woodblocks with contemporary hand color. There is one chapter entitled "The Australians" (Part 1), which includes an illustration of a kangaroo hunt (p37), in New South Wales & 20pp of text.

Muir # 6760 for Part 1, Hunters and Fishers. The State Library of South Australia and the State Library of Queensland hold only Part One (Part 1 Hunters and Fishers). Part 2 Herdsmen and Tillers of the Soil, is not recorded in Trove. No date, ca. 1860.
