In 1836, Dupetit-Thouars was appointed to command this expedition to the Pacific to look after French commercial and political interests. He visited Hawaii, Kamchatka, Tahiti, California, Acapulco, Easter Island, the Cook Islands, Rarotonga, New Zealand, Australia and Mauritius. Drawn by L. LeBreton, lith. by Blanchard. From the volumes published by Gide in 1840. Gide also published the extensive volumes accompanying Dumont D'Urville's "Voyage au Pole Sud" from 1841-1854. 27 x 20.5 cms plus wide margins which are foxed. The image itself is quite clean.
