View from Fort Putnam, West Point, Hudson River.

(View from Fort Putnam, West Point, Hudson River.) A very scarce American chromolithograph, published ca 1875. Folio size, 30 x 21". Vertical waterstain across top left corner, laid on canvas, which has been perforated from the back resulting in a puncture and several vertical cracks. Some sun fading. In an early frame. Highly unusual view taken from Fort Putnam, (the old fort above West Point), looking down to the parade ground (which is heavily wooded), with the old Delafield library in the foreground. The river slants from right to left between Bull Hill and Storm King, which artistic license has allowed to look distinctly "Matterhorn-ish". The river is busy with 2 paddle steamers, several sloops and a steam train. Cold Spring is visible in the distance. Item #6966
