The map exudes the prosperity of the area, the West Point Foundary having provided the artillery that helped the North win the Civil War. Robert Parrott, owner of the Foundry, is listed as the owner of the Beverly Robinson House in Garrison, the home of the Commander of West Point during the Revolutionary War. It was from this house that Benedict Arnold escaped when his treachery was discovered after John Andre was captured. Other famous residents included NY Governor Hamilton Fish; Judge Edwards Pierrepoint; W.H. Osborn; Samuel Sloan, president of the Hudson River Railroad; Thomas Rossiter, the Hudson River painter; W. Kemble, the Warner sisters on Constitution Island; Gouvernor, Philipse and Livingstone. Steel engraving with original wash color.
